RICi-SE Fast Ethernet over Serial Line Intelligent Converter
RICi-SE from RAD is an intelligent converter connecting Fast EthernetLANs over V.35 or X.21 circuits. The RICi-SE enables service providers and ISPs to supply transparent Ethernet services, without interfering with user traffic.
RICi-SE includes RAD’s unique EtherAccess features, which enable service provisioning and carrier backhaul applications over low and high speed SDH/SONET and PDH circuits from fractional and full E1/T1, E3/T3 over STM-1/OC-3, STM-4/OC-12 to Ethernet networks.
RICi-SE has one V.35 or X.21 port and one 10/100BaseTx port. Packets are forwarded from the Ethernetnetwork to the serial port
at wire speed.
The 802.1p priority scheme enables users to define four different QoS levels, according to the application requirements.
The Fast Ethernetbridge handles 1600-byte frames, supporting VLAN applications and other protocols requiring large frame sizes. In filter mode, the bridge learns MAC addresses and filters local traffic, and in transparent mode it forwards any received packet. VLAN stacking tags user and management traffic to different VLANs, thus maintaining the user LAN settings intact, and fully separating user traffic from management data.
The DHCP client automatically obtains the IP address, IP mask and default gateway, minimizing installation time.
RICi-SE Management
RADview-Lite, RAD’s SNMP-based element management software, provides SNMP traps, status polling, and configuration download. Remote element management is available in RADview-Lite through ConfiguRAD Web-based application, or by Telnet.
The devices are managed inband from the Fast Ethernet user port or via the X.21/V.35 interface. Management traffic and user Ethernet traffic are transported together on the same Ethernet flow, separated by different VLANs, thus ensuring traffic security.
RICi-SE Diagnostics
A built-in ping utility checks IP connectivity by pinging remote IP hosts.
A trace-route application quickly traces a route from RICi-SE to any other network device.
